Apicectomy / Cyst Enucleation
A cyst is formed by chronic infection at the root tip over a period of time. The cyst will be expanding over time and can expose the roots of the adjacent teeth over a period of time.

Apicectomy / Cyst Enucleation
Usually root canal treatment will be carried out on the affected tooth involving cyst and a small opening is made at the root tip of the involved tooth and the cyst lining is carefully removed so that there is no further infection. Also the root tip is cut off and a filling is done9 retrograde filling) to seal the root tip to avoid further infection.
Radiograps are advised over years to make sure the cyst is shrinking over a period of time and no other teeth are involved.
Apicectomy is a minor surgical procedure performed when conventional root canal treatment is not sufficient to treat an infection at the root tip of a tooth. During an apicectomy, the dentist or oral surgeon makes an incision in the gum tissue to access the root tip and surrounding infected tissue. The tip of the root, along with the infection or cyst, is removed, and the root canal is sealed with a filling to prevent further infection. This procedure is often used when a persistent infection remains even after root canal therapy or when there is limited access to the infected area.
Cyst enucleation, on the other hand, involves the surgical removal of a cyst from the jaw or surrounding soft tissues. This procedure is commonly performed when dental cysts develop, often as a result of untreated tooth infections, impacted teeth, or trauma. Cyst enucleation ensures complete removal of the cyst lining to prevent recurrence and any damage to the surrounding bone or tissues. Both apicectomy and cyst enucleation are effective treatments for eliminating infection, preserving the natural tooth, and preventing the spread of the problem to other areas. These procedures are typically performed under local anesthesia and require follow-up care to ensure proper healing.
