Before the insertion of the dental implant, the dental surgeon checks the location for dental implantation by performing tests including X-rays, panoramic films or CT scans to assess the quality and condition of the jawbone available. After the assessment, the dental surgeon initiates the procedure by conducting a tooth extraction of remaining damaged tooth present in with insufficient jawbone, a bone graft is performed to build up a strong base for the insertion of dental implant. If sufficient jawbone base is available, then the dental implant is inserted at the same appointment and a cap is placed. Later a crown is placed on the top of the dental implant and is secured with screws. By using typically just 4 to 6 dental implants instead of one implant per tooth, the procedure is minimally invasive and can replace an entire set of teeth without the need for repeat surgical visits. The Teeth-In-A-Day, specifically, is used to replace the entire upper or lower set of teeth. The procedure creates a permanent prosthesis by typically using 4 to 6 dental implants which act as an anchor for a bridge or overdenture for 12 to 14 teeth. Teeth-In-A-Day implants can replace both damaged and missing teeth and provide a long-term, permanent alternative to dentures.

As with all Dental Implants, Teeth-In-A-Day Implants are placed during an outpatient surgical procedure in First State Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Most patients will want to take advantage of some sort of sedation for this procedure, in addition to the local anesthetic that will be used.

Before leaving First State OMS office, the patient is fitted with the prosthetic arch. After the implants have fully integrated with the bone, the patient may return to receive a second, stronger prosthetic.
In the days immediately following the Teeth-In-A-Day procedure, patients should use common sense to determine what they can and cannot do to avoid complications and problems with the implants. Maintain a soft diet for a few weeks and be gentle with your oral hygiene routine (but still keep up with it to minimize the presence of potentially infection-causing bacteria!).

In addition to the short treatment time frame, Teeth-In-A-Day Implants have a number of advantages over conventional dentures. Teeth-In-A-Day implants are more stable and secure, greatly reducing the jawbone resorption that occurs with standard dentures, which have no root-like structure to anchor the bone.
